Part 4 of the BHANGEELAAR! Response to Kern Livingstone’s statement about Tower Hamlets as published on Friday 01 October 2010
CONTINUING our exclusive report and diagnosis on the part played by Ken Livingstone in creating an additional dimension to the mess that was Tower Hamlets Council….
We point out again for the record here that it was Ken Livingstone's association with an ill-advised and or misguided and or wrongful bid to change the ‘constitution’ of Tower Hamlets local Borough Council ending the remnants of a democratic say through elected councillors on the Borough Council that gave propaganda ammunition to those who wanted a YES outcome to a referendum on the issue.
Livingstone will in time come to rue that association. That is assuming that Livingstone has rational ethical non-racist democratic and non-imperialistic beliefs and disposition!
That is of course assuming rather a lot in the circumstances!
What Ken Livingstone said on 6 February 2010 as the main justification for his backing to the bid to have an executive elected mayor in Tower Hamlets remains very central to the objective understanding of everything that Livingstone says eight months later or is likely to say in the foreseeable future about the area and about the matter.
And what he said was that Tower Hamlets Council was in a mess. That it was undemocratic. That it was unaccountable. That it was in chaos and verging on corruption. And that infighting raged in the Borough Council.
He went on to say that for that reason, the way forward was to get an elected, executive mayor.
Nobody on that occasion was seen to be questing Livingstone's’ claim.
None including the alleged leader – according to Ken Livingstone himself - of the NO campaign uttered one single word about Ken Livingstone's assertions.
In fact it was the BHANGEELAAR! Campaign which spent DAYS asking a large number of Tower Hamlets Councillors about what Ken Livingstone had said on 6 February 2010.
After searching for days and spending considerable amounts of resource and time in that search, the BHANGEELAAR! Campaign against an elected mayor in Tower Hamlets was able to find an accurate version of what Ken Livingstone had said.
