We published on 14 September 2010 an exclusive account of an event held at the Troy in the Commercial Road London E1.
We pointed out one particular incident there. It was an incident that had been witnessed as occurring on a big screen.
The image we discussed was that of Jim Fitzpatrick, one of currently two MPs from the two UK parliamentary constituencies situated in the inner city East London borough of Tower Hamlets.
The ‘incident’ we detailed was the flickering digital one featuring Jim Fitzpatrick.
We also reported that the same screen also showed two other images, known to inner city political cognoscenti to have belonged to Ken Livingstone and Keith Vaz.
Our focus however was on Jim Fitzpatrick.
Was it a mere coincidence?
Was it an act of mystery on our part?
Neither.
What we had based our focus on had been the fact, undeniable by Jim Fitzpatrick, that he had been OPPOSED to the change of the local Council from the present loosely Councillors-led one to one where one individual - ‘the directly elected executive mayor’- with dictatorial, mainly undemocratic powers had the real say about the Borough!
We found it very odd and remarkable that Jim Fitzpatrick- albeit in digitally moving appearance at the Troxy on 14 September 2010 - was now staging his very own about turn and was taking part in the unconditional endorsement of a candidate to be mayor of Tower Hamlets.
That Candidate then was Lutfur Rahman.
So that was a double about turn by Jim Fitzpatrick.
Firstly that he had abandoned his previously “principled opposition” [!] to an elected mayor system in Tower Hamlets.
Secondly that he had moved a stage further and become associated with the endorsement of a named candidate!
We can reiterate today [Sunday 03 October 2010] that that kind of public about turn does no good to ANY claim suggesting that left to their own principles-free ‘options’ holders of posts such as ‘Member of Parliament’ are reliable!
Whether this shows Jim Fitzpatrick to be unreliable is not settled yet.
Why?
Because he is still shifting his ‘stance’ on the two aspects of the matter.
Last night [as the print papers are known to call the previous afternoon!] Jim Fitzpatrick went public and associated himself with a triple about turn!
Firstly he had abandoned his previous candidate with no evidence justifying his doing so.
Secondly he had found another candidate to replace his previous one without offering any lawful evidence for doing so.
Thirdly he showed no regret for having made such diametrically opposed public statements on such an important matter.
