Andrew Gilligan [ EVENING STANDARD online 27 July 2009] quotes Malcolm Starbrook for the “East London Advertiser” as follows:
“..The council wants a complete monopoly of the news in Tower Hamlets. It is an abuse of the democratic process and of taxpayers' money."
We the BHANGEELAAR! Campaign “against an elected mayor in Tower Hamlets” ACCEPT that the “East End Life” is an outrageous violation of the “democratic process” in the East End.
But does the “East London Advertiser” itself consistently and transparently adhere to the norms of the same democratic process?
If we look at the role played by the “East London Advertiser” at the start of the promotional activities for a directly elected mayor in Tower Hamlets, we find that the paper aided the side that wanted a “YES” outcome. The paper refused to publish our comments challenging the untrue plugs for a YES outcome.
The “East London Advertiser” [=ELA] ran an online question that was misleading as it gave a positive subliminal message encouraging a YES answer. It did not give the facts and it suppressed repeated attempts by the Bhangeelaar! Campaign to get the newspaper to tell the people in Tower Hamlets the necessary facts.
