[Dave Hill's London blog] in the last 10 minutes or so:
You [Dave Hill, the Guardian] have shown in your [recent reports and in the current] report enough facts that really vindicate the argument we have made all along against having an elected or executive mayor in Tower Hamlets.
One of those arguments has been that the post would attract anti-democratic and undemocratic elements that would then frustrate the much needed culture of accountability that Tower Hamlets needs.
It has got to be understood by all the 'outsiders' that ordinary people whose collective image has been used in all the implied assertions about the allegedly definitive referendum dated 6 May 2010 were not told the truth about the serious and undemocratic anti-social impact a change to the Council’s de facto constitution would entail.
As things are, there is scarce democratic accountability via Tower Hamlets Council at the present time. Why is it that no mention is made by the 'bloggers' and other 'insiders' that a series of questions have remained unanswered about the conduct of the 'referendum' from start to finish. We here refer to the role of the 'Returning Officer'.
We also ask that for the sake of accuracy and fairness, this matter and our ongoing campaign should be included in all the contextual facts whenever the matter of 'an elected mayor' is mentioned or reported in relation to Tower Hamlets.
We are campaigning amongst other constitutional law remedies for the scrapping of the 'result' of the referendum on the ground that the voters were misinformed and were not given all the relevant facts and information and that the Returning Officer has failed and or neglected to answer questions about the costs and the communications to the voters and the possibility of the use of fraudulent votes as well.
