A SCHOOL celebrated it £17million refurbishment during its official opening ceremony.
New buildings, upgraded computers and better equipped outdoor recreational areas were part of the revamp for Bethnal Green Technology College, in Gosset Street.
The college is the first to be completed of the 21 schools in the borough earmarked for cash under the government’s Building Schools for the Future project.
Headteacher Mark Keary said: “This project has been far more than just building work for us. It’s given the school a spectacular transformation.”
Students past and present were joined by mayor Lutfur Rahman and Tower Hamlets chief executive Kevan Collins, among other education chiefs, for the ribbon cutting on November 18.
Mr Rahman said: “These facilities are fantastic and will give pupils a solid foundation for a bright future.”
Secondary schools in the borough are set to benefit from a £350 million fund over the next few years.
Some 25 pupils were awarded for exceptional achievement and contributions to student life during the opening.
Music and drama performances were also held.

You say: “New buildings, upgraded computers and better equipped outdoor recreational areas were part of the revamp for Bethnal Green Technology College, in Gosset Street.” Where are the facts about “education” in the place? How many pupils are there? How many actually failed in the past year? How many parents and or guardians have had complaints about how many aspects of the former Daneford School? How many pupils were excluded, ‘barred’ from the school and what account was done of what happened to those that had been so excluded and or barred. What part of Tower Hamlets had they been consigned to and at what cost to how many people in the Borough due to the “consequences” that followed as chains from the school’s “achievements” there? Your report says nothing about those.
