When KEN LIVINGSTONE tried to abolish London Local Borough Councils! By taking away their democratic say on Livingstone's bid for extra powers to impose new taxes on local London residents and businesses. As has been the case with Livingstone, he dressed up the 2005 autocratic, dictatorial power bid as another ‘benefit for the poor of London’!
WARNING for London local councils: Beware of Ken Livingstone appearing on your doorstep bearing bribes dressed up as benign gifts. As Tower Hamlets voters prepare to vote on the imposed referendum on the future constitution of the Council, BHANGEELAAR! “VOTE NO in Tower Hamlets on 6 May 2010” Campaign brings news of what Ken Livingstone had been trying to do five years earlier.
Five years ago, just two weeks before the then general election of May [20045] news broke that KEN LIVINGSTIONE was trying to abolish London borough Councils.
He wasn’t literally saying on that exact occasion that London local councils should be abolished. Not on that occasion. Not straightaway. But what he was trying to do would have killed off the local borough Councils.
His bid to scrap Local Borough Councils appeared exactly five years ago! As London voters were nearing the day of the last general election, London mayor Ken Livingstone was reported to be plotting to abolish the powers of local councils.
He was relying ion Tony Blair to give him even more powers as the then mayor of London to impose tax on London people. The guise under which Ken Livingstone sought to scrap local councils’ powers was that he wanted to ‘tax the rich and reward the poor’!
