WIRRAL Council voted against having a directly elected mayor.
The authority has chosen to take on the ‘leader and cabinet’ model.
The main difference from the current system is that in future the council leader will be elected by a majority of the 66 councillors for a four year term.
However, the council retained its power to remove the leader if it chooses.
A statement from the authority said: “Council in reaching its decision duly considered the responses to the consultation undertaken between October and November when passing the resolution.”
Local authorities had been told by the Government to consider introducing elected mayors or a new form of cabinet administration, and to decide by the end of the year.

It must have happened behind closed doors or when we blinked. Somehow or other, what used to be a democracy with regular people involved and informed has become a private members only club.
I for one, would like to be consulted on decisions such as this. While we are at it, lets get political parties out of local Government and make Councillors priorities the people, not to their party Party and its Whip...This displaced loyalty is what started these behaviours.
