BHANGEELAAR! Adding another item of evidence showing the brazen hypocrisy of the Party-washed, brainwashed zombies operating in Tower Hamlets
Bhangeelaar! Exclusively recording the facts of the behaviour of the many 'NO' 'campaigners during January 2010 and up to polling day [06 May] 2010.
So it is very significant that Bhangeelaar! Campaign has this past hour come across a blog entry, allegedly posted on 6 May 2010 by a ‘Conservative’ supporter, who had this to say about a ‘directly elected mayor’ system:
“A directly elected mayor would be a wasteful extravagance, adding a pointless layer of political bureaucracy on to local government – but it would also be a vehicle for George Galloway to keep pushing his hateful demagoguery. Worst of all, it would put this arch-socialist into a position of power in an area that includes Canary Wharf, one of the biggest engines of prosperity in London. Don’t let it happen – vote no in today’s referendum.”
Polling day – three votes in Poplar
Despite a pretty horrid bout of tonsillitis, I’ve managed to haul myself down to the polling station here in Poplar and Limehouse. No prizes for guessing who I voted for.
Tim Archer, the local Conservative candidate, needs a 5.5% swing if he is to be elected, and it looks well within range for him. However, the election has been complicated here by the hulking figure of George Galloway, who abandoned his Bethnal Green and Bow seat to stand for Respect in Poplar and Limehouse. Quite why he values his past constituents so little is beyond me; I don’t agree with the idea that MPs must always come from within the communities they are standing to represent, but flip-flopping from one constituency to another in the interests of political egotism is a bit difficult to justify.
I have to say, I do envy the good people of Bethnal Green and Bow now that they have lost the cat-suited one. They haven’t had Gorgeous George trundling around on his battle bus, making windows rattle with his bass-boosted diatribes. They still have a chance to consign him to political history, though. For residents in Tower Hamlets, today’s elections include a referendum for a directly elected mayor. Galloway has said he will stand for mayor if he doesn’t get returned to Parliament. If you live in Tower Hamlets, don’t give him that chance. A directly elected mayor would be a wasteful extravagance, adding a pointless layer of political bureaucracy on to local government – but it would also be a vehicle for George Galloway to keep pushing his hateful demagoguery. Worst of all, it would put this arch-socialist into a position of power in an area that includes Canary Wharf, one of the biggest engines of prosperity in London. Don’t let it happen – vote no in today’s referendum.
