AADHIKARonline picture of a leaflet with George Galloway’s' photo plastered on a pillar outside No 9 Club Row London E2 photographed at 1117 Hrs GMT on 13 July 2010.
This is a historic picture. The subject of the vandalisation – done no doubt by Mr Galloway’s ‘critics’ – must have been some distance away from that scene.
I travelled to the address to verify the current state of activity by the former MP’s ‘Respect’ 'party'. I found the door closed and the internal metal shutters clearly down. There was no visible sign of comings and goings.
That phrase, comings and goings, would apply only a few weeks earlier as a real concept. I had walked one day in April 2010 along the Bethnal Green Road to take a closer look at the bus.
The bus! My reason was to establish if I would come across anyone local that I knew. The only local person that I did come across on that occasion was Carole Swords. It being election time, Ms Swords was quite preoccupied with ongoing activities. Especially with her guiding a group of mainly ‘Muslim’ women who were waiting inside the bus for her.
The conversation I managed to have with her did not get far into the topic. She had asked why I had been opposing the ‘referendum’ on the directly elected mayor. My answer was that I did not believe that a directly elected mayor would be good for the people of Tower Hamlets. We parted on amicable terms, as usual. Ms Swords has been a visible presence at many of the Khoodeelaar! Campaign against Crossrail. So for that reason alone, she is treated with a degree of recognition that we cannot extend to quite a few others! So on 13 July 2010, I walked into the Club Row wondering if Carole Swords would be still around at that ‘party’ address. If she were, I could possibly continue the conversation. And update her on the evidence that showed that my view was substantiated by subsequent events. [To be continued]
